Interactive Toys

Interactive toys allow the child to learn from the toy, and respond to it. These toys often have electronic components, frequently featuring audio technology. Children are encouraged to respond to the rules of the game, master its skills, and then receive positive reinforcement when they do so.

Some examples of this type of toy include interactive maps, books, and laptop-like devices that respond to commands. There are also board games that come with an accompanying DVD, which can make good multi-player games. Some of these toys act as a kind of handheld quiz show, encouraging the child to give a specific answer to a question, therefore imparting information while giving the satisfaction of using a machine correctly and receiving positive feedback.

Proponents of these toys also espouse that this kind of ability can be very helpful in today’s world where computers are so central. These toys are also meant to directly engage the child, and encourage him or her to follow specific instructions. These skills can be valuable in preparing for school as well.
