Creative Toys

Many would argue that every toy should in some way inspire creativity. Some common creative toys include art supplies, puppets and puppet theaters, toy pianos, and building blocks. What these toys have in common is they all encourage the child to put thought into something, and come up with a personal creation—whether that is creating a story and performance with puppets, playing a measure of music, or assembling something with blocks.

Indeed, many toys are designed to elicit some form of creativity. Some of the most basic of these toys include a simple box of crayons and a sketch pad, allowing the child to think about something and make a creation. Musical toys, as another example, encourage children of all ages to start testing melodies and playing with the sounds they create.

Additionally, these toys are geared toward particular ages and developmental stages. Not many children can play Mozart on the piano right away, but “Three Blind Mice” on the toy xylophone or piano might be achievable and rewarding. As with all toys, identify the interests of your child and determine which creative toy is best suited to those interests.
